Pop Up Feature: workshop for teachers

Kerstin Evert | Patricia Carolin Mai

EMPOWERING DANCE – SOFT SKILLS IM TANZ

As part of the Erasmus+ funded project Empowering Dance - The Soft Skills Teaching and Learning Approach, seven European dance houses and universities have jointly developed a digital guidebook that invites dance practitioners and artists from other fields to explore the potential of teaching soft skills as part of their artistic, participatory or pedagogical practice.

In this online workshop, Hamburg based choreographer Patricia Carolin Mai and K3 artistic director Kerstin Evert will introduce the guidebook and its topics and tools: Which soft skills are central to dance? How can these be addressed more specifically in one's own practice and teaching?

Patricia Carolin Mai

Patricia Carolin Mai is a dancer, choreographer and artistic director of MAI:COMPANY. She studied dance at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and performance studies at the University of Hamburg. Since 2015, she has been producing dance pieces at Kampnagel and K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg, which have been performed internationally in countries including Belgium, France, Italy, Israel and Korea. Her artistic work in intergenerational and participatory contexts explores movement as a somatic and empowering practice and examines bodies in extreme states. Since 2019, she has been conducting research on soft skills in dance education as part of the EU project ‘Empowering Dance’ and works as a lecturer and mentor both in Germany and abroad. In 2025, she founded MAI:COMPANY – Hamburg’s first cross-generational dance company. From 2026 to 2028, she is deepening her work on community, participation and physical diversity with MAI:COMPANY as part of the City-State-Federal project ‘An Artistic Practice of Expansion’.
