K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg provides three paid eight-month residencies to choreographers who are at the beginning of their career and have produced multiple choreographic works of their own. The residency begins in August 2027 and runs until April 2028. It includes a scholarship, the use of the k3 studios, a production budget, as well as dramaturgical, technical, and production related support. Over the course of the residency, the three choreographers research their own projects and develop a full-length piece that is presented in Hamburg.

The goal of the residency is to develop and strengthen the connections between choreographic practice, research, artistic production, and qualification. The duration of eight months should provide sufficient time and space for overcoming conventional rhythms of production and open up opportunities for exchange with other artists.

During the season 27/28, K3 and Kampnagel are undergoing renovations. Studios will be available throughout the residency and the premieres will be shown in theatres across the city or in non-theatrical spaces.

Application Requirements:

• The applicant is at the beginning of their career  (between emerging to early mid-career) and should have already implemented some projects of their own (outside of an educational context).
• The applicant has experience in producing their own projects and can provide up to 4 video links to full-length choreographies of their own.
• The applicant is available for the entire duration of the residency from August 2027 until April 2028 to stay in Hamburg.
• The applicant is willing to participate in K3’s outreach programme and other events at K3.
• The applicant is interested both in engaging in exchange with other artists as well as with an interested audience.
• The applicant already has some experience in / is interested in dealing with choreography on a discursive level, reflecting their own work, as well as working in a self-organised manner.
• Only applications by individuals can be accepted. Applications by teams or ensembles cannot be taken into consideration.

We accept applications in all choreographic fields (e.g. dance for young audience, public space, film). We welcome applications from all countries. Applicants do not require a formal dance education. Applicants with disabilities and from marginalised communities are encouraged to apply.

The residency programme covers:

• a monthly scholarship for living expenses and accommodation in Hamburg (exact amount to be confirmed, in the season 25/26 this was 2500,- Euro per month)
• one-time travel expenses from and to place of residence
• support in obtaining necessary papers/visa and related costs
• a moderate production budget for the performances at the end of the residency which allows for a small team over the last few weeks of the residency
• use of the K3 studios
• an accompanying support from the K3 team in the fields of dramaturgy, organisation, technical assistance, and public relations
• active participation in the K3 outreach programme
• After consulting with K3, accessibility costs for the residency can be covered in most cases. K3 tries to support additional costs for care (i.e. children or next of kin). If you have any questions regarding accessibility, you can find some general information here and in our FAQ.

The application is a process in multiple steps through an online form. In the first round, a short project description, biographies and videos of past works will be considered. Selected candidates are invited to write an extended application in September including a motivation, project description and structure. After reviews by an external board, a short list of candidates is invited for interviews via zoom. The final decision is expected to be made by the end of the year.

Voraussetzungen: Erste praktische Erfahrungen im Kulturbereich und/oder Studium im Bereich Tanz, Choreographie, Performance, Theater-, Geistes-, Kulturwissenschaft oder Kulturmanagement; Interesse an zeitgenössischen Tanz- und Theaterentwicklungen; gute Englischkenntnisse; gute Computerkenntnisse; Fähigkeit zu eigenständigem Arbeiten

Zeitraum: die Dauer des Praktikums soll mindestens 6 Wochen und kann maximal 12 Wochen betragen. Das Praktikum wird monatlich mit einer Aufwandsentschädigung vergütet. Als Praktikant*in hat man die Möglichkeit, vielfältige zeitgenössische Tanz-, Theater- und Performanceproduktionen am K3 und auf Kampnagel zu besuchen. Wir freuen uns über Initiativbewerbungen.
