Internationales Sommerfestival 2020 - Oona Doherty: Hope Hunt and The Ascension into LazarusWith great force, Oona Doherty tells of real life outside the art world: the 34-year-old Northern Irish choreographer develops a confrontational social realism through a mixture of dance, scenic elements and political agitation that is currently giving Europe's performing scene an innovative boost. With HOPE HUNT, the Summer Festival now presents a work in which Doherty dissects the masculine core of Europe's working class. In a hyper-intensive solo, the dancer Mufasa quotes movements, speech patterns and songs of raw masculinity. Instead of repeating flat stereotypes, Doherty creates a multi-layered portrait about class and gender, in which violence and tenderness, grief and happiness, despair and utopia are complexly linked. For this year's special edition of the Summer Festival, Oona Doherty will adapt HOPE HUNT as an outdoor version for two different stages in the Kampnagel garden. And what’s more: we are currently planning the premiere of a larger group work by and with Doherty for a future festival - stay tuned!
