Choreographers in Residence 2010

- © Thies Rätzke
For the fourth time since 2007, three young choreographers are currently taking part in our eight-month residency program at K3. After participating in this program in the past, many choreographers have moved on to successful international dance careers. For many, Hamburg has become their home and place of work.
Our sponsorship program for young choreographers unites many aspects of the K3 program – support, qualification, artistic research, local, national and international networking as well as cultural education and mediation of contemporary dance – and is therefore paradigmatic for the entire program.
The 2010 choreographers in residence are Margret Bjarnadottir (Island), Lea Martini (Amsterdam / Berlin) and Sebastian Matthias (Berlin). They will work at K3 from April until December. Paulina Pomana (Hamburg) will get a short term residency from April until Summer.
Residency Programme
As part of Tanzplan Hamburg every year, until 2010, three choreographers will be awarded residencies for the duration of nine months (April-December). They will be artists at the beginning of their professional careers who have already produced their own works.
This programme, in collaboration with the MA course in Performance Studies at the University of Hamburg, connects the practical work on the choreographers’ own projects with theoretical- and production-related practical knowledge and thus offers new approaches towards the promotion of young artists.
The selected artists develop their own productions during their stay in Hamburg, which will be presented every year in the autumn as part of K3 at Kampnagel. They will be accompanied and supported by artistic mentors and by the dramaturgy, organisational and public relations departments at K3.
The artists in residence will have the opportunity to visit seminars and lectures offered by the performance studies course. They also have the chance to take part in the activities offered by K3, which include training sessions and workshops led by renowned artists as well as courses on dance and performance theory and production-specific aspects like dramaturgy, concept development, public relations, cultural management and backstage production.
