- What actually is ‘contemporary dance’?
- How do choreographers work?
- How do choreographers develop concepts, how do they turn them into ‘pieces’?
- Which physical and dance techniques are current approaches in the genre of dance based on?
- How is contemporary dance reflected in culture and cultural sciences, in dance/performance theory and in the history of dance? How do these approaches show in artistic practice?
- What are the relationships between current trends in dance and those in other art forms?
- How can we talk about dance? How can we ‘read’ choreography?
K3 wants to ask these and other questions as part of Tanzplan Hamburg. With various forms of presentation – such as pre- and post-performance talks, workshops, lecture presentations and discussions - K3 would like to invite dance professionals and everyone else who is interested in dance to discuss and reflect on contemporary dance, its artistic approaches and its thematic and theoretical connections.
„Moving Heads“ - Talks about Choreography
In the season 08/09, K3 will start „Moving Heads“, a series of talks which is focussing on the interfaces between dance, choreography and performance as an artistic experience and theoretical discussion, considering as well the aesthetic, historic and socio-political background. Futhermore we would like to create new forms of communication between the audience, artists, academics and institutions.

K3 Dance Youth Club
In September 2007 the ‘K3 Dance Youth Club’ started with a weekly training (Wednesdays, 17:00-19:00, K3 studios). Under the direction of Friederike Lampert (Hamburg), who is not only firmly based in dance education and dance studies but also works as a choreographer, the club presented their first project Chorus in February 2008. During spring, the teenagers worked with the choreographer Philipp van der Heijden (Hamburg) on a new piece, station:bach, which they presented in June 2008.
For the next season, the club will resume the training on 10 September 2008. Open for all interested young people (15 years of age and more).
For inscription and further information please contact Friederike Lampert: lampert@tanzbildung.de
‘K3 – Centre for Choreography/Tanzplan Hamburg’ is also a project partner of ‘Step by Step’, created by Bürgerstiftung Hamburg (Citizens’ Initiative Hamburg). Friederike Lampert will take on the dance educational and choreographic work at one of the schools participating in this project.
