Workshop Joao Fiadeiro (Portugal): Real Time Composition

Joao Fiadeiro belongs to the generation of choreographers that emerged towards the end of the 1980s and gave rise to the Nova Dança Portuguesa [New Portuguese Dance]. In 1990 he founded RE.AL, a centre for artistic residencies and performance productions that played a key part in the development of contemporary dance in Portugal. Since 1995 he has been engaged in the systematization of the Real Time Composition method, first designed as a tool to support the creation of hisworks, but that soon became a powerful theoretical-practical platform to question and re-think the way we take decisions, collaborate and cooperate, both in art and in life. At the moment, he is co-directing with the anthropologist Fernanda Eugénio the AND_Lab, a laboratory for artistic research and scientific creativity.

Real Time Composition is a clarification of vital functioning, of the operative dynamics of human relations, of cohabitation. The protagonist-artist is no longer to be seen; the only protagonist is the event itself." (Fernanda Eugénio)
